About Videomega Productions
Since 1994, Videomega Productions has been committed to the design of superior communications tools and for the research and implementation of quality public relations/mass media communication campaigns. As a fully fledged Advertising Agency, with its own in house video production facility, and with over five years previous experience running our subsidiary company Hughes & Thorne Publishing House, we have been able to place special emphasis on tailor made documentary programming for the electronic media, and an array of print publications which have been successful in sending effective messages to a particular target audiences and motivating change.

Videomega Productions brings to the table creative ideas and concepts – the foundation of any successful campaign. Over the last fourteen years the Company has provided a range of services to its local and regional clients. These include the production of radio and television documentaries and commercials, training videos, educational programming, corporate infomercials, media scheduling, analysis and placement. Our range of expertise has over the last ten years grown to include the design of behavioral change campaigns, the hosting of focus group research sessions and desktop publishing services including the production of brochures, booklets, newsletters, print and newspaper advertising, marketing and public relations activities.

Videomega Productions has been instrumental in the design and implementation of several national mass media campaigns which have played an integral role in the dissemination of public service information on particular issues with a view to changing attitudes and behaviour. In 1995, Videomega Productions designed, produced and implemented a National Public Awareness Campaign to promote voluntary blood donation in Guyana for the National Blood Transfusion Service – Guyana’s local Blood Bank. Funded initially by the European Union and in more recent years by the National Blood Transfusion Service through the Ministry of Health, our “Give Blood, Give Life” campaign utilised several aspects of the media in the pursuit of its goals. The campaign which ran for over five years and included the production of seven television commercials with supporting radio advertisements and a ten minute documentary/infomercial and resulted in a dramatic increase in blood donation levels in Guyana.

In addition to the production of television and radio programming, Videomega Productions has also produced for this campaign a series of newspaper advertisements, articles, posters, brochures, a billboard, bumper stickers, table/shelf talkers, magnets and other product giveaways. An important part of this campaign included the community advocacy component which we carefully crafted into the campaign. To celebrate World Health Day 2002, and its theme “Safe Blood Starts with me, safe blood saves lives”, Videomega Productions was instrumental in organizing a series of public discussions on radio and on carefully selected television stations, which provided information and a “feedback” opportunity which allowed a section of our target audience to call in to these programmes with their questions which were then accurately answered by a Medical Doctor in studio. This “feedback” aspect is often missing from several campaigns and proved to be an informative component of the strategy.

In addition to this campaign, the Company has been involved with public awareness campaigns promoting “Safe Motherhood” which included the production of a series of television documentaries and training videos for women primarily, the general public and community health workers in Guyana. This material is currently being shown in Health centers across Guyana.

In 2000 Videomega Productions was contracted by the then management of the Guyana Power and Light Company, the local electricity Company which for years was plagued with an adverse negative image, to design and implement a public awareness campaign to transform this troubled utility. We produced several infomercials, TV and radio commercials, print advertisements and posters to name a few of the deliverables. Given the behavioral change nature of this campaign we organised and implemented several stakeholder meetings with private sector bodies, the business community, sections of the media and most importantly the staff of GPL in our effort to create a new image of the Company and to present the challenges it faced and its commitment to improve. This project provided invaluable experience on the operations of public utilities and the regulatory framework within which they operate.

Working with youth and the real issues affecting this unique group is not new to Videomega. In 2004, we produced a 30 minute documentary “Coping with Puberty” for a local Non Governmental Organisation, Lifeline Counselling Service, which works in the area of promoting HIV/AIDS education, awareness and prevention and the reduction of stigma and discrimination This programme was placed on a few of the local TV stations and is used as a communication discussion tool in the groups’ outreach sessions and youth groups.

In 2005 Videomega Productions worked closely with the USAID funded GHARP project on the design and implementation of a comprehensive HIV/AIDS awareness education campaign which was part of President Bush’s PEPFAR programme. This involved conducting focus group discussions and the design of a behavioral change campaign targeted to young Guyanese which included the production of a video documentary, TV commercial and power point presentation. Given the rapidly increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS in the 18-25 age groups, special emphasis was placed on targeting young people, and changing behaviour through the design of attractive, “hip” and innovative technology driven approaches, with the use of appropriate music to attract and to meet the special need of a young target audience.

Videomega Productions was contracted in 2005 by the Pan American Health Organisation- PAHO, to design, produce and implement a series of radio and television public service announcements regarding health issues relating to the devastating floods that plagued Guyana in January of that year. These messages all played a critical role in informing and educating a national audience of critical need-to-know information in a national disaster and highlighted the appropriate action that had to be taken during and after the floods.

Videomega Productions has been very fortunate in recent years to work on two exciting and innovative projects designed specifically to reach the needs young people. In 2006 we designed and produced a four part television soap opera/docudrama, “The Tides of Life” which explored the themes of violence which has emerged recently in Guyana and in several other Caribbean territories. Produced for a local NGO, Women Against Violence Everywhere, WAVE, and funded by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP Guyana office, this programme was a tremendous hit with placement on four major TV stations in Guyana. The cast was completely new young people, who the viewing public and the target audience – young people in the 18-25 age group could relate to. The four half hour segments were follow immediately after they aired on TV by an interactive discussion by a selected team of positive, young role models who discussed the issues facing young people who offered positive solutions and approaches to dealing with being a young person in 2006.

Again in 2007 Videomega Productions was chosen to produce a 28 minute regional Youth Focused television documentary for the Commonwealth Youth Programme. This programme “Forgotten Voices: Stories from the other Side of Paradise” explored the experience of the marginalized voices in Caribbean society. In this docudrama we listened as young people from across the Caribbean as they talked about the particular challenges they face and some of the recommendations they make for empowerment. This documentary includes raw and eye opening interviews by the young participants and has been distributed by the Commonwealth Youth Programme offices across the Caribbean. It also includes programme activities and solutions provided by this NGO to find solutions to the challenges facing the youth of the Caribbean.

The range of programmes Videomega Productions has produced over the years has provided us with invaluable experience. As can be expected, the production of effective documentaries involves conducting extensive research, careful pre production planning and interview techniques for which our team has gained a strong reputation in Guyana and across several parts of the Caribbean.
